Hatec: audience favorite Global Entrepreneurship Competition

Jun 08 2009

In June 2008 HATEC SA was founded, in Thessaloniki as a startup company in Technopolis Incubator  in 9ο klm PO box 60756, Pylaia 570 01, Thessaloniki, Greece. The partners are HUMAN ASSET SA, Technopolis Business Park and Dimitris Tolis, the CEO.

hatec
HATEC’s foundation is the customers need for effective e-learning integrated solution. E-learning with the form of web based training is not considered a successful training method. Interactivity is missing. E-learning (asynchronous and synchronous) is being more and more popular. The Interactive Content (Reusable Learning Objects) based on International Standards (SCORM) is effective and acceptable to many learners worldwide. The problem is that many organisations and educational institutes deal with each on of the previous methods and means, as if they were isolated. This situation depreciates the added value of the new trends in learning and vocational training.
HATEC offers integrated software solutions for e-learning in institutions and companies. We provide software platforms for asynchronous (Learning Management Systems) and synchronous e-learning.

E-learning content: We create custom Training Material, multimedia and interactive, (SCORM, IMS) for company’s e-learning Training Programs based on the company’s needs. Also we offer consulting services to the HR and Training Department of companies: e-Learning Training Strategy consultancy, Instructional Design. Finally we provide Expert Training on e-Learning methodology, techniques and media. (Train the Trainer & the e-learning Trainer, Train the e-learning Organizer, Train the Instructional Designer)
The main target group for us are mainly Public Organisations, Ministries and Training Institutions, Private companies (over 100 employees) and Franchise Networks.
Our sales strategy has 3 axes. To participate in calls for tenders for Public Institutions, to work as consultants and integrators for Public Institutions and to have sales to the free market for the private sector.

Pixable: audience favorite Global Entrepreneurship Competition

Jun 05 2009

Pixable enables you to print your Facebook content in under 5 minutes.

logo_pixable

Pixable, an MIT startup, offers a fast, easy and creative way to turn your Facebook content into printed memorabilia such as photo books, calendars, or posters, which are printed, packaged and home delivered, all at an affordable price. What about a photo book as a present for your boyfriend with all the pictures where both of you are tagged, including captions or comments left by friends? What about a calendar with the profile picture and name of all your Facebook friends printed on the day of their birthday?

We started Pixable because we know hundreds of people who want to print photo books using content on Facebook but currently have no efficient way to do so. Until Pixable, they had the following problems:

•    Speed: If you wanted to print your (or your friends) Facebook photos today it would take a long time! Just downloading Facebook photos individually, visiting a photo-printing site, then uploading, organizing, adding titles, and printing them can take five hours! And that assumes that you know where the photos you want are. Currently, there is no easy way to collect all the photos in which you or someone else is tagged.
•    Missing content: If you used the method above, you miss out on much of the content on Facebook that can complement the printed photos : tags, captions, quotes, messages on your wall, status updates, and comments left by friends.
•    Redundancy: Isn’t it frustrating to know that all the photos and information that you wanted to select were already organized on FB? Photos on Facebook are already organized in many different ways - by person, by event/trip, by album name, by tagging information. Why should you have to replicate the process?

dreamwindows

We believe video service will penetrate into every individual internet site, becoming a fundamental service like pictures and music. However, the most of internet sites can’t provide video service by self because of the high entry barrier of video service such as video system development and operating expenses.

Up to now, there are more than 150,000 websites using our video service and 20,000,000 video viewed and 3,000,000 unique users per day.

Carlos Domingo: “Defining Roles to Build Innovation”, Telecom Innovation

May 29 2009

“I like everything that has to do with the Internet, computers, software and gadgets, not just the geeky aspect but also the business side.”

Carlos Domingo is the director for Internet and Multimedia for Telefónica R&D, based in Barcelona, where he managed the R&D center. He has been all over the place for the last 15 years, specially in Tokyo, his favorite town, and finally came back in mid 2006 to his home town.

Carlos Domingo holds a MsC in computer science from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, a PhD in computer science from the Polytechnic University in Catalonia and postgrad business studies from Stanford Business School. Carlos has 15+ years experience in the IT and telecommunications industry. After different professional stages at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Synera Systems S.L and Toyota Overseas Marketing, in 2002 he become VP of Technology for Celartem, a publicly traded Japanese company and eventually became the CEO of its US subsidiary after merging Extensis, LizardTech and Celartem USA. In 2006 he joined Telefónica R&D as the director for internet and multimedia based in Barcelona, where he also manages the R&D Center.

In his blog Un poco de todo, (a little bit of everything in Spanish), from technology, business and globalization to movies, books, Spain and Japan, explains:

“one of the reasons some companies have a hard time innovating on the Internet is because a lot of the people taking decisions about products and services are digital immigrants (or worst, digital aliens) and therefore they do not get some of the things that digital adaptives or digital natives like. This terminology is really cool as it helps not only to understand educational issues but also to explain differences in behavior when using digital services”.

Recently he has been awarded with the “Premio Nacional a la Trayectoria Profesional” granted by the “Asociación de Ingenieros en Informática”.

PopIn: audience favorite Global Entrepreneurship Competition

May 28 2009

popIn, Japan, is a company specializing in user interfaces for Web searching.

popin

When people browsing the Internet come across a word they want to look up or don’t understand, they often have to stop looking at the page they have open, open a search engine in a new page or tab and perform their query.

The solution to this problem of Web zapping is popIn. popIn allows users to perform a full range of searches including searching sites like Google, Wikipedia and Amazon right from the page they are browsing, eliminating the need to open new tabs or windows. Based on this interface, we currently offer free Add-ons and plug-ins for major browsers, and widgets that site owners can install on their websites for all visitors to use.

Because popIn users visit Web search pages less and less often, popIn is a threat to Web search engine providers. As the number of users increases, there will be more and more business opportunities.

Moreover, because popIn allows users to spend less time on search engine Websites and more time on content Websites, site owners who install the Website version of popIn on their Websites are pleased with the results.

In the future we are also planning to offer versions for mobile platforms such as iPhone and Android.
